There is a lot of great information out there to protect yourself and your family from ticks.

We will share some of our favourite resources below!

Prevention

The source is small, but the effect of Lyme disease is big. Prevention is our best tool.

Wear light-coloured, long-sleeved shirts & pants. Tuck pants into tight-weave, light-coloured socks (this makes ticks more visible & keeps them off your skin longer). Stay on the trail & avoid tall grass.

❋ Dress for ticks & stick to the trails!

If possible, have others check to see if they see any ticks on you, or check yourself & use a mirror to check hard to see areas

❋ Tick Checks

Sprays & clothes: Locally created spray PureGuard helps prevent tick bites, Permethrin-treated clothing is also an option (see our website for the Government of Canada guidance).

❋ Sprays & Clothes
  • Avoid squeezing the tick body as infection can be pushed into the host or may enter through breaks in your skin, such as close to your fingernail."

  • "Use clean, fine-point tweezers, or tick tool, to grasp tick as close to the skin as possible. Slowly pull straight out. Do not twist, burn, or cover with anything."

Wash the bite area with soap & water or an alcohol-based sanitizer.
